Beckles to appear in court tomorrow
TWENTY-one year-old Rodney Beckles, son of principal of the UWI’s Cave Hill campus, Professor Hillary Beckles, will re-appear in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court tomorrow to answer to a charge of murder.
When Beckles appeared in court on Monday, his attorney, Robert Fletcher, told presiding magistrate Judith Pusey that he had yet to review the statements in the case file and needed time to do so. The matter was then rescheduled for Thursday.
Beckles was charged on Saturday with the murder of 28-year-old Khalil Campbell, son of Supreme Court Judge Lennox Campbell, who was stabbed to death last Wednesday.
Campbell died after allegedly having an altercation with Beckles over marijuana at a premises off Old Hope Road. During the altercation, Campbell was reportedly stabbed more than 20 times.
He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
Police say initial reports suggest that Campbell and Beckles were friends and had numerous arguments over ganja prior to the incident.
