Mac’s Gourmet Market
‘MAC’S Gourmet Market finally opened its doors last Saturday and has already created a stir.
If you’ve not heard the buzz, it’s because you’ve been away. Pick up lunch like we did on Tuesday or stop on the way home and plan an amazing dinner party. It’s a gourmet paradise already acclaimed by some as The Harrods (of the Caribbean). We like the idea of Selfridge’s Food Hall ourselves, since this is where Mario Machado spent some time. But hey, whatever. It’s another great example of excellence by Mario, Fiona and David who are quick to advise that “it’s a work in progress”.
That’s fine, but the kippers keep disappearing as quickly as they are put out, the gungo and ham soup is excellent, the baguette pollo at $495 can feed two ravenous men, the yoghurts are delicious (we had the guava and strawberry) and the salads Hip Hip Hooray! There’s no need to journey all the way to Round Hill for a salad Nicoise or a chicken Caesar for that matter. gourmet lunch for three (well, okay, some of us ate more) costs $2,358.18. The true cost of being able to do this seven days a week in Kingston. priceless.
