Alleged gunman still unidentified
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The police are yet to identify the alleged gunman who was shot dead by a security guard after the man and a confederate reportedly robbed a tourist at gunpoint in Ironshore, Montego Bay on Friday.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network, at about 2:35 pm a visitor to the island was on Fair View Avenue in Ironshore when she was approached by two men, one armed with a gun and the other with a knife.
She was reportedly robbed of credit cards and an undetermined sum of money by the men.
However, the men were intercepted on nearby Hatfield Way by a security guard who police say engaged the men in a firefight. One of the men was shot, the police was later summoned and the injured man taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The other alleged robber is still at large.
Meanwhile, the bloodletting in Montego Bay continued Saturday when Marcelle Hayles, also called ‘Solo’ of an Albion Lane address, was shot dead at home. No on apparently saw who shot Hayles.
Police report that shortly after midnight, residents in the area heard explosions and called the police.
When the cops arrived, they found Hayles’ body with gunshot wounds on the kitchen floor of the house. The crime scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for post mortem examination.
Up to Saturday, 14 persons were murdered in St James since the start of the year. In 2006, the parish recorded 178 murders.
