Brothers shot dead in Ricketts Close; two men injured
TWO men are dead and two others are in hospital nursing gunshot wounds following what police believe to be a reprisal shooting at Ricketts Close in the Kingston 13 area yesterday morning.
The dead men have been identified as brothers – Nakia Wright, 26, and Steve Wright, 28 – both of Ricketts Crescent. The police have not released the names of the two men who were admitted to hospital, but gave their ages as 33 and 28 years old.
“At about 7:30 am the four men were standing along Ricketts Close when five gunmen approached them and immediately opened fire hitting them,” Constable Kerry Ann Beckford of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) told the Observer yesterday.
“The police were summoned and the four men were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where the younger brother was pronounced dead and the older brother died while undergoing treatment.”
Beckford also told the Observer that two men – Gary Morris (also known as Stitchie) and a man known only as Duxie were being sought by the police in connection with the shooting incident.
“The detectives from the St Andrew South Homicide unit have linked the killings to an ongoing gang feud in the area. The police will be continuing their investigations,” Beckford said.
Last Friday, two brothers, Orlando ‘Lando’ Long, 24, and Dane ‘Punta’ Lewis, 26, of Central Road in the community, were shot dead in Central Village, St Catherine. The Central Village police, who are investigating, say an ongoing gang feud in the area was responsible for their murders.
