Heartless gunmen!
POLICE were last night hunting for two gunmen who held up a driver employed to the Heart Foundation of Jamaica and stole the organisation’s marked bus.
The incident happened about 1:30 pm yesterday along the usually busy Hagley Park Road in Kingston, the Jamaican capital.
According to the police, the gunmen pounced on the driver and held him at gunpoint before demanding the vehicle and speeding off. The driver was not hurt.
Chairman of the Heart Foundation of Jamaica, Dr Knox Hagley, said the stolen van contained results of various heart tests, including electrocardiograms. He appealed for the return of the vehicle.
“The loss of the van will affect our operations as we do a lot of travelling to screen hearts all over the country,” Dr Hagley said. “Hundreds of patients who are awaiting the results of their tests have been put out and may have to retake the test,” he added.
The vehicle is a white 2007 Toyota Hiace bus with the licence number, 5475EW. The Heart Foundation’s logo is written all over the vehicle.
According to Dr Hagley, the vehicle was one of two which was donated by a London-based Jamaican charity group, Friends of the Heart Foundation last year.
The Heart Foundation of Jamaica is a non-profit organisation which was established in 1971.
