Stop throwing words Portia, says Golding
OPPOSITION Leader Bruce Golding yesterday told People’s National Party (PNP) president Portia Simpson Miller to “stop throwing words at him”, and urged her to pick up the phone and call him.
“I’m gonna ask the prime minister. You are a nice lady. Don’t throw any words at me. If you have something you want to say to me, you have my numbers, call me. Cause we can talk, you know. If we as persons who offer ourselves can’t talk and communicate, collaborate, and cooperate. If we can’t do that then we are not worthy of the people’s trust.,” Golding said to loud applause form the partisan crowd gathered at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
Golding, who was addressing a meeting of parliamentary and municipal representatives and their campaign managers, said the word-throwing was unnecessary.
“It is not necessary for her (prime minister) as she did on Thursday evening at the opening of the constituency office for South Eastern St Andrew Member of Parliament (Maxine Henry-Wilson) to be talking about, ‘she don’t hear some people saying anything about election violence. Which people she talking about, me? So why she don’t pick up the phone and call me. We are civil. We can talk.,” Golding said.
He said he did not berate anyone when he addressed the Jamaica Labour Party’s annual conference in November, nor had he attacked the PNP leader, nor any PNP supporters.
He urged his party officials and supporters to do the same.
