Mentally-ill man injured in house fire
A mentally-challenged man was injured in a house fire which he allegedly started at Dunoon Road, Kingston 2 on Monday.
Police named the injured as 29-year-old Greg Prehay.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), the police’s information arm, said that at approximately 10:30 Monday morning Prehay demanded a sum of money from a family member, but allegedly threatened to set the house on fire when his demand was not met.
“Shortly after, fire was seen coming from a section of the two-bedroom house. The fire brigade and personnel from the mental health agency were alerted. On their arrival, Prehay locked himself inside the house. He was rescued from the burning building and taken to hospital for treatment for burn injuries,” said a CCN report yesterday.
A unit from the Rollington Town Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
St James taximan shot dead
ANTHONY Genius, a 30-year-old taxi operator of Hurlock in St James was shot and killed by gunmen on King Street in Montego Bay Monday night.
The CCN’s liaison officer for St James reported that at approximately 7:45 Genius was driving a Toyota station wagon motor car along King Street when an explosion was heard.
Three men, the CCN said, were seen running from the vehicle, after which it was discovered that the taximan had been shot dead.
Man gunned down in Catherine Hall
THE Montego Bay police have commenced a probe into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Catherine Hall, St James Monday evening.
The dead man has been identified as Prince Christie, 29, of John’s Hall district.
According to the CCN, Christie was in a yard when he was approached by three men armed with guns. The gunmen immediately opened fire at him, hitting him several times.
