One dead, four injured in Red Hills Road drive-by
GUNMEN struck during peak hour traffic along Red Hills Road in Kingston yesterday, killing one man and injuring four other people.
The police reported that the five were sprayed with bullets by men travelling in a car as they stood at the entrance of a squatter settlement, which runs off Red Hills Road along the bank of a gully in the vicinity of Merrick Highway.
The dead man was not identified up to press time, while the four injured persons were admitted to hospital.
Last night, head of the Major Investigation Task Force, Assistant Commissioner Les Green, described the attack as a continuation of the carnage taking place along sections of Red Hills Road.
“It is early days yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is linked to the ongoing conflict in Common (a squatter settlement along Red Hills Road),” Green told the Observer.
The latest killing brings to 24 the number of persons who have been cut down in an internal gang conflict which has raged in the volatile community since November last year.
