Point Village Resort workers to vote in rights poll Thursday
SEVERAL workers employed to the Point Village Resort in Negril, Westmoreland will Thursday vote in a representational rights poll, being contested by the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU).
The union is seeking to represent the hotel’s waiters and waitresses, sanitation and maintenance staff, bartenders, storemen, housekeepers, groundsmen bellmen, chefs and lifeguards, among other groups of workers.
The ballots will be counted at the Ministry of Labour on Friday morning, said BITU assistant island supervisor Alvin Sinclair, who was responsible for organising the workers for the rights poll.
Point Village Resort, located on 14acres in Negril, was built by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) and opened in 1992. It comprises some 160 rooms, plus privately owned units.
