One more gun off the streets of St James
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The police said yesterday that a Davidson Industry .380 pistol, taken from the body of Stonecrusher gang member Michael Williams on Wednesday night has brought to 12 the number of illegal guns removed from the streets of the parish.
Williams, 19, was shot dead by the police in an alleged shootout in the volatile Norwood community at approximately 11:00 Wednesday night.
The St James police liaison officer Corporal Peter Salkey reported yesterday that police were on foot patrol in the Home Hill area of the crime-prone community when they were fired at by one of four men. Salkey said at the end of the alleged shootout, Williams, a plumber of Coke Road in Glendevon, was found clutching a pistol – serial number AB099014 – and suffering from gunshot wounds. Williams was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. The other men escaped, Salkey said.
Williams was said to be involved in the gun slaying of District Constable Luke Rhodes, who was shot and killed in downtown Montego Bay on January 23.
