NWA promises repair for Discovery Bay to Brown’s Town road
The National Works Agency (NWA) says that relief is coming for concerned users of the Discovery Bay to Brown’s Town road in St Ann, a section of which has broken away.
Subsequent to a letter to the editor carried in last Wednesday’s edition of the Observer voicing concern about the breakaway, which has existed for well over a year and posed a danger to road users, communications and customer service manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said that work is to begin on the road before the end of February.
Shaw told the Observer that already a contract has been awarded for the work, valued at just under $10 million, for a retaining wall to be constructed and for supporting road works to be carried out.
He said the construction will be done under the NWA’s Critical Retaining Wall Programme, which has been in effect since 2005.
Last year, the NWA announced its intention to begin, in October, repairs on the nearly 400 breakaways on its main road network islandwide. The work is expected to cost some $300 million.
