$11-million road rehabilitation work starts in Trelawny
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced an $11-million rehabilitation and patching programme for several sections of roadways across the parish, which will host next month’s opening ceremony for Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007 at the new US$30-million multi-purpose stadium.
According to Janel Ricketts, community relations officer for the NWA’s western region, under the programme, the agency would be targeting 10,000 square metres of roads for patching and rehabilitation.
Ricketts said work had already been completed on some roads, including that which runs from Rio Bueno to Jackson Town, while work was scheduled to begin on several others next week. Thoroughfares in Falmouth, the parish capital, would also be patched under the programme.
Yesterday, Member of Parliament for North Trelawny Dr Patrick Harris, who expressed delight at the multi-million dollar road improvement programme for the parish, announced that a major clean-up programme for Falmouth was also underway, and would be followed by a beautification project in time for CWC 2007.
“Clean-up is going on as we speak. The beautification will start after that. Currently we are embarking on the removal of old vehicles off our streets, the bushing of roadways , the cleaning of drains and so on. After that we will commence the beautification of the town,” the MP said.
