Maverley woman shot dead
DESPITE police presence, the fatal shooting of a most wanted man and the arrest of his cronies two weeks ago, guns continue to bark in the community of Maverley in St Andrew.
On Sunday, gunmen shot dead 43-year-old Millicent Williams, a resident of Maverley, as she walked along Fenbrook Avenue in the area at about 8:45 am.
Williams was one of three people reported killed Sunday. The others are 62-year-old Albert Howell, also called ‘Blacks’ of Rollington Town in East Kingston and Mario Lake, 20, of Treadlight in Clarendon.
Police say Williams was the mother of Jamar Johnson, also called ‘Bin Laden’, who was cut down during an alleged gunbattle with the security forces two Saturdays ago.
“We are getting information that the shooters were her son’s cronies, but these are all allegations,” a cop from the Hunts Bay police station told the Observer.
Johnson was among a group of men who the police say had shot up a section of the community occupied by a rival gang and were holed up in a house at Campden Crescent. The cops say they approached the premises and were fired upon.
Johnson was shot dead while two other men, one of whom has been identified as Ricardo ‘Trixtan’ Palmer, were taken into custody. Other men, who were believed to have been in the house at the time, escaped, police say.
Howell was shot about the same time Williams met her demise. Police report that the elderly man was walking on Alburn Street in Rollington Town when gunmen in a car pulled up and shot him several times. Howell was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Lake was killed after reportedly attacking members of a police party with a gun in Clarendon. Police say they surrounded a premises at Treadlight district when Lake attempted to escape through a back door. The cops say he pointed a loaded Smith and Wesson magnum revolver at them. The police shot Lake, who died on the spot.
The Bureau of Special Investigation is probing the incident.
