TWO men were yesterday sentenced to do 200 hours of community service at the Half-Way-Tree Police Station after pleading guilty to stealing clothes from the Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters on Waterloo Road in Kingston.

The men – Dave Johnson, of Hagley Park in Kingston and Mart Edmonson of Barrett Drive in August Town, also in Kingston – both pleaded guilty to simple larceny when they appeared before RM Judith Pusey in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.

According to the police, on January 28 at approximately 3:30 am both men were seen throwing two suitcases and three large plastic bags containing a quantity of male and female clothing over a fence at the Salvation Army premises. They were held by security guards and handed over to the police.

After hearing the facts of the case, Pusey then sentenced each to 200 hours of community service, giving them specific instructions to re-paint the walls of the room used for identification parades at the Half-Way-Tree Police Station, as well as whatever other task the police officers prescribed.
