Azan promises repairs to St Elizabeth roads in two weeks
In two weeks, residents in South-East St Elizabeth should start seeing improvements to their bad roads, according to junior minister of transport Richard Azan, who toured the area last Friday along with the People’s National Party caretaker/candidate for the constituency, Norman Horne.
Azan said the money for the repairs would come from the ministry’s revolving patching fund, and said an estimate of the costs should be prepared soon.
The majority of the roads toured were parish council roads, and Azan said his ministry would begin dialogue with the Ministry of Local Government on how to repair them.
Earlier, Howard Hendricks, the National Works Agency’s head of communication in the parish, said the plan was for the agency to take over some of the parochial roads.
Azan said, too, that he would begin discussions with Alumina Partners of Jamaica on a partnership to fix the roads close to the company’s plant at Nain, St Elizabeth.
One major road project in the parish now is phase one of the Round Hill to Treasure Beach road, which is being constructed at a cost of $20 million.
