Westmoreland cops shot dead man on ‘most wanted’ list
Burnt Savannah, Westmoreland – The Westmoreland police yesterday released the names of four men who they say are wanted for questioning in connection with several murders and shootings committed in the parish.
This follows yesterday afternoon’s shooting death of 18-year-old Romaine Reid, who was said to be one of Westmoreland’s most wanted men. He was gunned down by the police during an alleged shootout in the Bamberry area of Burnt Savannah in the parish.
The police say they are now searching for Reid’s accomplice Alexis White, 21, also called ‘Smiley’ who they believe escaped during yesterday’s shootout, as well as Damian Garwood, alias ‘Tyson’, Everton McDonald and Anthony Reid also called Tony Reid, all of Savanna-La-Mar addresses.
“We are asking that these men hand themselves over to the police so that we can conduct our investigations into several incidences that they are implicated in,” said Inspector Louis Brown, the parish’s crime chief.
Brown said both Reid, alias ‘Bouta’, and White were tied to the “Bobo” gang which operates outside of Russia and had been implicated with several shootings and murders committed in the inner-city community of Russia and other surrounding areas of Savanna-La-Mar.
According to police reports, Reid was shot yesterday during a special operation and patrol. The police reportedly spotted two men acting suspiciously along the Bamberry Road and accosted them. The men reportedly ran into a canefield and pulled handguns and opened fire at the police.
The police reportedly returned the fire, and Reid was later found suffering from gunshot wounds. A .45 Taurus pistol bearing serial # NQG02840 with five rounds was reportedly taken from him. The other man escaped.
“Based on the description of this other man that escaped, it is believed that he is White,” Brown told the Observer.
