A member of the notorious Joe Benbow gang, Miguel Eubanks, alias Macky Boy, was shot dead by the police on Monday, while two other members of the group were taken into police custody.

Eubanks, the third member of the notorious gang to be killed since last week, was implicated in last Friday’s murder of 68-year-old Ronald Williams and his 50-year-old common-law wife Angella Allen at Torrington Park in South St Andrew.

Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, the head of operations for the West Kingston Police Division, told the Observer that Eubanks was shot and killed during a police operation in the Hannah Town area of Kingston. A .45 pistol, he said, was taken off the gangster’s body.

Hewitt said Eubanks was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Allen and Williams, who was the groundsman at the Admiral Town Police Station. He said the dead man was also “positively identified as one of those who invaded a house in the community and fired shots destroying items of furniture”.

In the meantime, Hewitt said that in addition to the gang members killed by the police, officers have managed to capture others.

“We took two into custody today. that’s five. I would say about seven or eight of them we have taken out. It’s a very large gang, the majority of them are out there. They operate in Torrington Park, Benbow Street, Jones Town, Rema.they operate all over the place,” Hewitt said.

In the meantime, he said the police had recovered two assault rifles and a total of 209 rounds of ammunition during an operation at Benbow Street.

Superintendent Hewitt said the police would be maintaining a strong presence in the Torrington Park community following sustained firing in the area early Sunday morning.

“Nobody was shot, but after assessing the situation we theorised that they were firing shots to lure the police inside there and based on the threats to probably engage the police foolishly,” Hewitt said.
