A Kingston man on Tuesday pleaded guilty in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court to having his 10-year-old stepdaughter deliver a small bag containing ammunition to him one day last month.

Hubert Allen, of Franklin Avenue in Kingston 16, pleaded guilty to a charge of illegal possession of ammunition before presiding magistrate Desiree Alleyne.

The court was told that on January 20 Allen called his common-law wife and allegedly told her to take a black plastic bag from on top of the television set in their house, and send it to him with the stepdaughter.

As the child walked along the street to deliver the bag, a group of police officers stopped the child and searched the bag and several rounds of ammunition were found. It was not immediately clear what types of ammunition were found in the bag.

On seeing the police officers questioning her child, the mother went to investigate and was shown the ammunition. She was then ordered to get into the police car. Allen, who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, was pointed out to the police by his common-law wife, and was also ordered to accompany the officers to the police station.

The court was also told that while being questioned by the police, Allen said that the ammunition was his and that he had found them in Vineyard Town.

However, when he appeared in court he said the ammunition was not really his, but said he had told the police the bullets were his in order to protect the 10-year-old child’s future.

He, however, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of ammunition and is to be sentenced on February 26.
