Garbage drums for Black River
Mayor of Black River and chairman of the St Elizabeth Parish Council, Franklyn Witter (left) accepts a donation of 20 garbage drums from Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for South-West St Elizabeth, Dr Chris Tufton (right) during yesterday’s clean-up exercise in Black River. Looking on is Clive Little, a representative of National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
The garbage bins will be placed in St Elizabeth’s capital, Black River, as well as in the minor town centres of Mountain Side, Middle Quarters and Treasure Beach.
The donation formed part of a clean-up and public education exercise in the seaside town of Black River and its environs by Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professionals arm of the Opposition JLP and the party’s South-West St Elizabeth constituency organisation.
Several state agencies, including the St Elizabeth Parish Council, the NSWMA, and the Ministry of Health, also participated in the project which also included the cleaning of drains; cleaning of a section of the Black River beach; and the distribution of flyers giving information about malaria.
