THE National Works Agency (NWA) has expressed satisfaction with the traffic changes implemented along sections of Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston yesterday morning to ease the pile-up from the Portmore toll road.

“The changes went well. We were able to significantly reduce the level of congestion that we normally see on this particular roadway during the peak hours in the morning,” Stephen Shaw, communications and customer service manager at the NWA, told the Observer yesterday.

“(Before) persons reported that at times it took them up to 50 minutes to get from the toll plaza to Marcus Garvey Drive in the mornings, and this morning persons were able to do it under 10 minutes at the height of the traffic,” Shaw said.

Shaw said that the NWA and the National Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC) would continue to monitor the traffic flow to ensure that kinks are dealt with expediently.

Meantime, Trevor Jackson, managing director of TransJamaica Highway, told the Observer that traffic changes have significantly improved the flow of traffic along Marcus Garvey Drive.
