Only one additional malaria case since last week
THE Ministry of Health says only one case of malaria has been confirmed on the island since last Wednesday.
Minister of Information Donald Buchanan told Monday’s post-Cabinet press briefing that the new case increased the total number of confirmed cases since late last year to 302 which, he suggested, was a clear sign that the disease was being eliminated.
He said that in addition to the other measures, the ministry has set up a health desk at the Norman Manley International Airport to monitor visitors from ‘malarious’ countries to control the imported cases.
