Me? The Most Honourable?, No way, says Golding
Opposition Leader Bruce Golding last night said he would not want the title ‘The Most Honourable’ affixed before his name were he to become prime minister of Jamaica.
According to Golding, although the title came with the office, it could not be forced on him if he did not agree to accept it.
The title is attached to the office. But I believe that titles should be awarded in recognition of the quality of service, and not just given because they come with the office,” Golding told University of Technology (UTech) students and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters at a Generation 2000 (G2K) branch relaunch on the UTech campus in Papine, Kingston.
Golding said he supported the position of late former Prime Minister Michael Manley who also refused to accept the title during his first stint as prime minister from 1972 to 1980. However, Manley eventually accepted the title when he returned to office in 1989.
