Cops say murder of Jones Town couple as morbid as ever
A couple was murdered in bed at their Jones Town home in Kingston yesterday in what the police say appeared to be linked to an ongoing feud between men from neighbouring communities.
Gunmen kicked in the door to the bedroom shared by Cassandra Beckford, 20, and Lloyd Forbes, 30, at about 2:00 am and sprayed them with bullets. The couple died on the spot.
“This morning’s double murder was as morbid as ever,” one investigator who went to the death scene told the Observer yesterday.
Police say the double murder may have been a result of a conflict which has been brewing between a gang from the communities known as Angola in Arnett Gardens and Action Pack in Wilton Gardens, who have been at war with members from a gang known as Bibbow. The Bibbow gang is known to have links in sections of Jones Town, Torrington Park and Hannah Town.
The couple’s death occurred about five hours before the body of 27-year-old Joseph Lee was found at the intersection of Asquith Street and East Road yesterday morning.
Lee’s body was found with gunshot wounds. His hands were bound with a black shirt.
But the police said yesterday that they would be taking back these communities from the gunmen.
“We will be making sure that we beat back these criminals and rule the streets. There will be no wholesale murders again,” Deputy Superintendent in charge of crime for the West Kingston police division, Arthur Brown, said.
