NCB ancillary workers strike
SCORES of National Commercial Bank (NCB) ancillary staff across the island walked off the job yesterday claiming that their demands for improved wages have not been met.
In the Corporate Area, the placard-bearing workers which included porters, nursery and canteen staff picketed the entrances to the bank’s branches located on Knutsford Boulevard, Trafalgar Road and Oxford Road from about 8:00 am.
The workers complained that while other categories of workers at the bank received reasonable increases, the increases offered to them were unacceptable.
“When we get 10 to 12 per cent when and we a carry home $8,000 a week and them a take tax out of that, we can’t pay we bills,” one worker said.
