Warrants issued for complainants in SuperPlus beating case

WARRANTS have been ordered for the arrest of the two complainants in the assault case against five SuperPlus Food Store employees.

The warrants were ordered on Monday after the complainants – former SuperPlus employees Renardo Dawes, 20, and Michael Sinclair, 18 – again failed to show up for trial in the Kingston Gun Court.

A new trial date of April 25 has now been set.

The case has seen many failed start dates since late last year, due to the no-show of the two whom the men allegedly assaulted for reportedly stealing three crates of Guinness stout from the Park Crescent, Mandeville store where they worked.

The five SuperPlus employees charged with kidnapping, illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful wounding, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault at common law are managing director, Jeremy Chen, store manager Ainsley Henry, assistant manager Ryan Lindo, driver Garth Fagan, and Fabian Foster.

The five were arrested following allegations that on January 16, 2006, about 7:30 pm, the complainants were taken to Chen’s home in Mandeville where they were badly beaten and a dog allowed to attack one of the men.

The men were hospitalised for the injuries they suffered during the beatings.
