Flyovers being considered to ease traffic congestion
ROBERT Pickersgill, the transport minister, says the government is concerned about traffic congestion in the Corporate Area, and that the need for flyovers at major intersections is “becoming more of a reality”.
Pickersgill, addressing a press conference in Kingston yesterday, said: “We are now in the era of overhead bridges and we can’t escape it. We have all the studies and designs, but it is always at the end of the day a question of resources”.
According to the minister, while it was too early to go into details, the timeframe for the use of the bridges was ‘yesterday’. “It (traffic congestion) is on us in the Corporate Area; we have to deal with that,” said the minister.
“.The designs are there, we are looking at one now and the quicker we put it in, the better,” Pickersgill added.
While unable to give details on the timeframe being considered for construction of the flyovers, Pickersgill said offers have been received for deferred financing.
