Cops bust $10-m car-stealing ring
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine – The police in Guanaboa Vale say they have busted a major car-stealing ring, arrested one man and recovered a number of motor vehicles and car parts valued at more than $10 million.
Damian Fisher, whom the police say is “the main suspect” has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession
of property.
The welder of Chapel Top, Kitson Town in St Catherine – who also answers to the name “Kevin” – appeared in the Spanish Town criminal court last Tuesday but was denied bail. He was remanded in custody until March 20, when the case will again be mentioned.
Detective Corporal Kirk Roach told the court that between
March 5 and 6 the police carried out a raid at a welding shop in Kingsland, St Catherine. Roach also told the court that police intelligence led the team to the shop, and that on one of the visits, Fisher was seen running from the area.
The police nabbed Fisher and slapped him with the charges after completing their investigations. The detective said Toyoto Prados, Toyota Corollas, Toyota Hiace buses and Nissan vehicles and parts for these vehicles valued at over $10 million were seized during the raid. They said it took them two days to remove the vehicles and parts from the scene.
The police, who claimed that this seizure has put a dent in the car-stealing ring in St Catherine, are asking people who have lost motor vehicles to car thieves to contact the Spanish Town police at 984-2874, or 984-3164.
