Accused in ATM murder case refused bail
ONE of the six accused charged with the murder of financial analyst Jamie Lue and Jamaica Aids Support employee Steve Harvey in 2005 was refused bail the Home Circuit Court last Friday.
Duane Owens, 23, was refused bail by Justice Paulette Williams, after the Crown informed the court that the accused had told the police that he was present in a yellow Nissan motor car when Lue, 25, a financial analyst at Alliance Capital Limited, was kidnapped.
Lue, who lived at Orange Grove in Stony Hill, St Andrew, was abducted in the Constant Spring area, robbed and killed while on his way to meet his girlfriend. His body was found in the back of his Honda CRV along Mayfair Avenue, at the foot of Beverley Hills on December 31, 2005.
The others charged with the murder of Lue’s are Andre West, otherwise called Dwayne, 19, and Lynford Allen.
Also an expected bail application for Rhyan Wilson, who is charged along with Trishana Spence, 19, West, Owens and a girl 17, for the November 2005 murder of Harvey, 30, was withdrawn by attorney Lloyd McFarlane who told the court that he never received the files in time.
Harvey was abducted from his Duhaney Drive, Kingston 20, home by gunmen and later found dead on Pinewood Terrace on Wednesday, November 30. Harvey’s ATM card and other items were taken. His stolen motor car was found parked at the football field at Markland Avenue in Grants Pen, St Andrew.
The accused, who are all from an area called Vietnam in Grants Pen, were arrested on January 12, during a police operation which turned up a Ruger 9mm pistol and a .38 revolver. Clothes, suitcases, jewellery, cellphones and watches belonging to both victims were also recovered.
The police believe that the men were targeted for their ATM cards and that the accused are part of a wider network of criminals who target ATM holders.
The matter is again set for mention on April 20.
