Sandals, Beaches Resorts fete 1,000 kids for Easter
IT was not the Easter Bunny, but Sesame Street character Elmo worked just as well, as more than 1,000 students in St Ann and St Mary celebrated Easter in style at a treat hosted by Sandals/Beaches Resorts.
Students of Stewart Town Basic, Golden Pre, Parry Town Primary and Great Pond Basic schools, all adopted by the hotels, were feted with goodies by management and staff of Beaches Boscobel, Sandals Dunn’s River and Sandals Grande Ocho Rios this week.
Most of the children at Stewart Town Basic School, who were seeing Sesame Street character Elmo live for the first time, made sure they cherished the moment as they hugged, danced and took photographs with him.
Audrey Crooks, executive assistant manager Beaches Boscobel, said the resort has committed itself to community service and the welfare of students in the parish of St Mary.
At the same time, Michael Darby, general manager of Sandals Grande Ocho Rios, said it was a pleasure for his hotel to treat 700 students at Parry Town Primary and Great Pond Basic Schools.
“This is just a small part of our commitment to our adopted schools,” Darby said. “We also attach great importance to the upkeep of the schools and the wellbeing of students and teachers.” He pledged that the hotel would continue being a good corporate citizen.
The enthusiastic students at Golden Pre School had a ball as they partook in the Easter goodies and shared fellowship with managers from Sandals Dunn’s River who turned out for the event.
Greetings were brought on behalf of general manager Louis Grant who stressed the resort’s commitment to the school.
Regional public relations managers for Sandals/Beaches Ian Spencer and Lyndsay Isaacs, who spearheaded the Easter treats, said the adoption of the schools by the three resorts showed the company’s commitment to education and youth in Jamaica.
“Sandals/Beaches sponsorship goes way beyond that and we play an integral role in the lives of the students,” said Spencer. He said, too, that a further strengthening of the company’s role in community involvement was expected this year.
