Man extradited to face drug charges in New York
MICHAEL Dwayne Thompson, the man who was apprehended by members of the police’s Fugitive Apprehension Team on Wednesday, was yesterday ordered extradited to the United States when he appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Thompson, 29, who is wanted in the US in relation to several drug-related charges, was not represented by an attorney when he appeared in court yesterday and offered no objection to an extradition order on his behalf. Presiding magistrate Desiree Alleyne then made an order for Thompson to be extradited.
According to the police, Thompson, who resided at Harwood Drive, Kingston 20, allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover policeman in New York in September 2004. While awaiting trial for that matter, he fled to Jamaica where he hid until his apprehension this week.
