Search still on for mother of baby found in latrine
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – The police were yesterday still searching for the mother who abandoned her newborn baby who was discovered Thursday morning in a pit latrine at Compound, a poor community in Falmouth, the Trelawny capital.
The Falmouth police yesterday appealed to persons who know the whereabouts of the mother of the dead baby to pass the information on to the station.
Michael Hoshing, a resident of Compound, said he was about to use the sanitary facility about 3:00 am Thursday when he discovered the body of the baby in the pit.
Hoshing said he became curious when he saw blood splattered on the floor of the facility, and when he ignited his cigarette lighter he saw the dead baby in the toilet pit.
Hoshing told reporters that he was so frightened that he rushed inside his house. At daylight, he said he told residents in the district about the gory find, but several did not believe.
“Nobody believed me until they came and saw the little baby,” Hoshing said. By late morning, scores of persons had swarmed the community to get a glimpse of the dead baby.
“That woman deh wicked. She too wicked, nobody should a never do such a terrible thing like that,” one woman remarked.
