Glenville Shaw remains PNP candidate for SW St Ann
GLENVILLE Shaw will remain as candidate for the People’s National Party (PNP) in South West St Ann.
Shaw took the decision to withdraw his resignation letter following a meeting with party officials and constituency representatives last Friday.
“He has withdrawn his letter of resignation, he is going to be the candidate of the PNP,” Mark Campbell, chairman of the party’s Region One told the Sunday Observer.
“The general secretary (Donald Buchanan) and myself had a very long meeting in the constituency and Shaw announced that he is prepared and quite willing to serve the constituency,” said Campbell.
Shaw could not be contacted for comments.
Shaw reportedly resigned after some constituency executive members criticised his stewardship, alleging that he was losing support.
However, Campbell, while conceding that work needs to be done in the constituency said “there were signs that Comrade Shaw has an outstanding chance of repeating his 1993 victory and we’re going to be working with him to ensure that this happens”.
Meanwhile, there is still no date set for the selection of a representative for South East St Ann.
According to Campbell, there needs to be a determination as to who are paid up members and would therefore qualify to be on the voters’ list.
After this is done to the satisfaction of all four candidates, a new date will be set for the selection of a representative to replace sitting Member of Parliament, Tourism Minister Aloun Assamba, who announced earlier she would not be seeking re-election.
The four candidates vying for selection are environmentalist and businesswoman Bevon Morrison, businesswoman Sheree Brown-McDonald, Lenworth Fulton, executive director of the Jamaica 4H movement and engineer, Dan McDowell.
