Man electrocuted
A man was electrocuted and another injured when the truck in which they were travelling got entangled in JPS high tension wires on Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston yesterday morning.
Dead is 22-year-old Kevin Welch, while injured is Michael Hibbert 18, both garbage collectors of Kingston 11.
Golding’s day
THE 2007/2008 budget debate resumes at Gordon House this afternoon, with the contribution of Leader of the Opposition Bruce Golding.
Golding, who is likely to speak at approximately 3:00 pm, is expected to deal with a range of issues including political victimisation; government’s investment in the Cricket World Cup competition and repayment of the loans involved.
Fiesta meeting said positive
THE first round of discussions between the representatives of the Fiesta Hotel Group and the trade unions seeking to represent some 2,000 workers on their site in Point, Hanover, ended on a positive note yesterday.
The initial discussions centred on the unions’ claim for representational rights. The talks will continue next week Wednesday between the unions and the two main contractors, said to be from the Dominican Republic.
Bridge washed away
HEAVY rains in the eastern section of the island Tuesday night washed away a temporary bridge between Portland and St Mary, rendering the main road leading from Annotto Bay to Port Antonio at Dover impassable.
The alternate route from Portland is Buff Bay, White River, New Castle, Irish Town to Papine or Port Antonio, Morant Bay, Yallahs, Bull Bay to Kingston.
Woolmer’s body leaves today
THE body of late Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer is scheduled to leave the island today, for repatriation to his home in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported yesterday that the body, which was being kept at a branch of the Roman’s Funeral Home in Kingston, will leave the island for London, England and thereafter to South Africa where burial will take place.
