Police vow to dismantle notorious Stinger gang
POLICE in the Kingston West Division say they are hot on the trail of the remaining members of the Stinger gang, following last weekend’s fatal shooting of Marlon Mattie, alias ‘Little Wicked’, the top member of the criminal outfit, and the arrest of two others.
“.We will not stop until the gang has been dismantled,” a policeman at the Denham Town police station told the Observer.
Police said they stormed premises in a section of Arnett Gardens known as ‘Top Jungle’ after they got word that several heavily-armed men were attending a wake for slain gangster Christopher “Cheese Trix” Williams, who was killed during a pre-dawn shoot-out with the police on the Mandela Highway in St Catherine on April 1.
Cheese Trix, the police said, was wanted for several murders, including that of police corporal Charles Gordon, who was shot while issuing a traffic ticket in downtown Kingston.
Little Wicked, the police said, was cut down after men attending the wake fired at the cops in a bid to escape. The police said they recovered two AK47 assault rifles and 22 rounds of ammunition following the shooting.
Meanwhile, one man was held and charged for shooting, while a 17-year-old youth was slapped with a charge of illegal possession of a firearm. Both were said to be members of the notorious Stinger gang.
Cheese Trix’s funeral, which was scheduled for Sunday, was postponed because of the fatal shooting at the wake.
The Stinger gang, the police said, has been behind a number of murders and shootings in the Kingston West Police Division. The gang was linked to the early morning attack on Gerald Brown, his wife Dorcas, their daughter Michelle, and granddaughter, 10-year-old Sasha-Kaye Brown, who were shot and their home set on fire at Barnes Avenue in Kingston.
The Stinger gang is based at Ramsay Road in Kingston and have forged links with a gang know as ‘Bibbow’, which operates in ‘Pegasus’, ‘Mexico’ and ‘Top Jungle’ in Arnett Gardens and sections of Jones Town.
