TWO female students of the Marcus Garvey Technical High School in St Ann’s Bay are to appear before the next sitting of the St Ann juvenile court on May 21 to answer to charges of unlawful wounding, following an altercation last Wednesday.

Reports are that on Wednesday afternoon, the accused were involved in a fight with three other students along Bravo Street in St Ann’s Bay following the dismissal of the morning shift. The two allegedly used scissors to inflict wounds on the other students.

The police, who were quickly on the scene, held the two students and took them into custody. They were later charged.

The injuries sustained by the other three students, however, were not considered life-threatening.

Marcus Garvey was among the schools recently identified by the Ministry of Health as problem schools where indiscipline is rampant.

Earlier this year, a security guard employed to the school was seriously wounded after a group of male students allegedly attacked him with a machete.

That matter is still before the courts.
