Soft drink delivery truck hijacked, driver killed
THE driver of a Jamaica Beverages Ltd delivery truck, bottlers of Busta soft drinks, was found dead by passers-by along George’s Lane in downtown Kingston Wednesday afternoon, a few hours after the truck he was driving was commandeered by men in the vicinity of Kingston Mall where he had stopped to do business.
Two sidemen who worked on the truck were found tied up in the back of the looted vehicle, which was abandoned along Alton Villa Road in West Kingston, according to the police. The sidemen were said to be residents of West Kingston.
The deceased, who was found around 2:00 pm with a stab wound to the body, was identified as George Lawrence, a resident of Stony Hill, St Andrew.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), armed men hijacked the truck around 8:00 am after Lawrence, who makes frequent deliveries to the downtown area, made a stop at the Kingston Mall along Ocean Boulevard.
A security guard who answered the phone at the Jamaica Beverages complex at Naggo Head in Portmore, St Catherine Wednesday afternoon said Lawrence was a jovial and well-loved person.
