Off-duty guard kills two in attempted robbery
AN off-duty security guard Monday night shot and killed two armed men who attempted to rob him and his wife when they boarded a taxi on Main Street in Mandeville, the Manchester capital.
One of the dead men has been identified as Bryan Sharpe, 27, of Old Harbour in St Catherine. The other was not identified up to last night.
The Mandeville police reported that about 9:45 pm, shortly after the guard and his spouse boarded a Toyota station wagon taxi, two male passengers pulled knives and a gun and attempted to rob the couple.
The guard, the police said, pulled his .38 revolver and shot the two. Both were later pronounced dead at hospital.
The car then crashed into the perimeter wall of Mainland International Hardware on Brumalia Road. The gun that was used by one of the armed men was not found when the police arrived on the scene.
