Golding calls for automatic renewal of taxi licences
OPPOSITION Leader Bruce Golding says the renewal of road licences for taxi operators should be virtually automatic, and that they should not be subjected to the long delays and harassment they are now experiencing.
“The entire system of licensing taxis has to be revamped,” Golding told JLP supporters during a tour of Portmore (South-East St Catherine) on Saturday.
“.They wait for such a long time before they can get those licences renewed. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why this is so.
“If the licence is expired, all you need to do is to see that the vehicle is insured and is in good roadworthy condition. The renewal of the licence has to be virtually automatic. That is something that we want to make some changes in,” he said.
