Girl jumps from speeding cab to escape attempted abduction
KNOCKALVA, Hanover – A 16-year-old female Knockalva Technical High School student was yesterday treated at hospital and released after sustaining multiple wounds when she jumped from a speeding cab in a bid to escape the driver who allegedly attempted to abduct her.
The girl, who resides at Haddoo in Westmoreland, was heading to school when the incident occurred.
According to the police, the taxi driver raced past the school gate when the female student, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, asked him to stop about 8:45 am.
Police said the young student became apprehensive and jumped from the vehicle, injuring herself. The matter was reported to the Ramble police, who took the injured teenager to hospital. She received injuries to the head, left foot, forehead and one of her wrists.
The Ramble police subsequently launched a manhunt for the driver of the white Toyota Corolla station wagon motor car.
