Lee clarifies Portmore drain-cleaning expenditure
THE Portmore Municipal Council says there is no contradiction in the amount it has spent on drain cleaning in the community this year.
Mayor George Lee, in a statement Tuesday, said $14.7 million has so far been spent, and that the $3 million to $3.5 million mentioned by David Parkes, the chief administrative manager, was expenditure related to the average monthly cost for cleaning drains in the municipality, “an example being the major drain in Waterford which was recently cleaned at a cost of $3 million”.
The statement was in response to an article in the Observer on Tuesday which said that Lee and the chief administrative manager could not agree on how much money the council had spent to clean drains.
The article reported that Parkes gave a figure of between $3 million and %3.5 million, while Lee said it was $12 million.
