ODPEM stages hurricane preparedness expo today

THE Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) will host its annual Hurricane Preparedness expo today at the Portmore Mall, St Catherine betwen 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.

This year’s expo will feature 20 exhibitors showcasing products and services to help with hurricane preparedness and other disasters.

The day’s activities will include quizzes, poems, spot prizes and performances from several schools in Portmore as well as storytelling by Amina Blackwood Meeks.

The expo is among the activities planned for the month of June which is being celebrated as Disaster Preparedness Month, and is aimed at increasing the general awareness of the importance of hurricane and general disaster preparedness.

The theme for Disaster Preparedness Month is “Disaster Preparedness: From Awareness to Action!”
