One dead, two injured in Manchester accident
ANCEL Thompson, a 47-year-old farmer of Chudleigh, Manchester, was killed while his wife Mitzy and son Ancel Jr are nursing injuries after a Nissan station wagon in which they were travelling collided with a Ford truck along the Kirkvine main road in the parish Thursday morning.
According to the police, Thompson was driving his station wagon towards Williamsfield when it was hit by the 10-wheel truck driven by a 21-year-old man and travelling in the opposite direction. They say the accident happened as the driver of the truck attempted to circumnavigate a truck that was parked in the vicinity.
Thompson’s car was pushed 20 metres on impact and ended up hanging over the retaining metal rail on the other side of the road. He was trapped and it took a team of firemen, who were called to the scene, approximately one hour to cut him free from the wrecked vehicle. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mandeville Hospital while his wife and son were admitted in serious condition.
The driver of the truck, in the meanwhile, was detained by the Mandeville police for questioning.
