Gov’t health scheme award suspended
THE formal process of awarding the Government Employee Administrative Service Only (GEASO) health scheme has been temporarily suspended, pending Cabinet’s consideration of two options regarding the award process.
Claudia Ferguson, chairperson for GEASO committee, told the Observer that the two options were agreed on yesterday in a meeting between the finance ministry and GEASO representatives.
“We discussed how we could now involve the GEASO monitoring committee, having been bypassed in the evaluation process and our discussion culminated in two options which we thought could be presented to Cabinet,” Ferguson said. However, she declined to say what were the two options.
GEASO members were angered by news last week that the government had awarded the management of the public sector health scheme to Life of Jamaica over Blue Cross.
