‘Danny English’ remanded in custody pending July 16 enquiry
POPULAR dancehall entertainer Donald “Danny English” Cox was yesterday remanded into state custody until July 16, when a preliminary enquiry will be held into charges of carnal abuse and indecent assault brought against him by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
Cox, 36, appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday dressed in a long-sleeved khaki shirt, matching pants and sporting a small afro, facing allegations that he had been engaging in sexual intercourse with a teenaged girl since 2004.
He is alleged to have been sleeping with the girl -now 15 – since she was 12 years old. He is facing 15 counts of carnal abuse and one count of indecent assault.
Yesterday, attempts by his attorney,Wentworth Charles, to ask for bail failed after presiding magistrate Judith Pusey said that the number of counts for which his client was charged prevented her from considering his wishes.
“I am reluctant to grant bail in this matter with the number of counts against him,” she told Charles. “When the evidence is in we can revisit the matter of bail.”
She then set the matter for a preliminary enquiry on July 16, and ordered that Cox be fingerprinted and undergo a blood test.
