JAS supports weekend of prayer
THE Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) says it fully supports the call for a weekend of prayer at the end of the month and wants farmers to join the exercise.
JAS president, Senator Norman Grant, says that the society will be observing the event by staging an evening of worship, prayer and praise on Sunday, August 5, at the annual Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show in Clarendon.
The call for a weekend of prayer was made by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller at the People’s National Party’s (PNP) rally in Half-Way-Tree on July 8. It has since been endorsed by the Leader of the Opposition, Buce Golding.
“The preservation of the Independence weekend by the prime minister will ensure the fullest celebration of this festive season for the farmers and patrons at the Denbigh show,” Senator Grant said. “The JAS also notes the support of the Leader of the Opposition to this call, during his address to the national convention of the New Testament Church of God in Old Harbour.”
Grant said that the JAS will be extending an invitation to church leaders across the country to join farmers at Denbigh for the event on August 5.
He said that holding the general election in late August instead of late July will ensure the fullest participation at Denbigh.
“The JAS maintains that not one life should be lost in the process (of electing a new government) and the gospel of peace and love must always be at the forefront of what we do,” he said.
Denbigh is scheduled for August 4-6 and is expected to attract over 100,000 patrons over the three days.
