Meet the candidates

South East St Mary Harry George Douglas, MP – PNP

Born: Belfied, St Mary

Family: Married, 4 children

Presently, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government and Environment; Minister of State in the Ministry of Water and Housing (2002-2006); PNP’s Deputy General Secretary (1989-2003); Special assistant to the late Michael Manley, former prime minister; Councillor Rae Town and Annotto Bay division; Building surveyor, Kingston and St Andrew.

Bringing to the table:

“I am committed to providing tertiary education opportunities within the constituency with the construction of a state-of-the-art community college. The design work has been completed and I am working with the Ministry of Education to confirm funding. I am committed to ensuring that educational opportunities in the constituency prepare our young people for job opportunities.

I am working with our young to introduce farming methods and crops which will give the yields and returns which will make it once again attractive for young persons to remain in the agricultural sector. I will work to ensure that the quality of our housing stock is maintained by tapping into existing government programmes, in particular the social programme initiative, which was recently increased.

I will ensure that road contracts that have been approved are signed, and that work will begin within the first year of my returning as MP.”

Born: July 12, 1961

Profession: Principal architect, Tarn Peralto and Associates

Family: Married, three children

JLP caretaker St Mary South; member of JLP central executive; member of JLP standing committee.

Brings to the table: “A dedicated portion of our budget will go towards developing our constituency. This will ensure the development of necessary water supplies and proper transportation and roadways.

Our goal is to provide a better standard of living for our constituents. I will put together development projects to reduce unemployment. I will work hard to improve the lives of my constituents. Farming is our biggest earner in St Mary and we will place a priority on giving it our biggest support. We will ensure that our farmers’ goods get to the market. I am also committed to providing the highest quality basic school education.”
