MONTEGO BAY, St James – A People’s National Party (PNP) politician was, up to late last night, being interrogated by senior narcotics police in connection with a shipment of drugs that was destined for the United Kingdom.

According to an Observer source, the politician allegedly sent off a shipment of lumber from the Sangster International Airport to England, via the Norman Manley International Airport.

During a routine check by the narcotics agents in Kingston more than 50 pounds of ganja was allegedly found in the lumber.

The politician, said to be a building contractor who was involved in the construction of one of the Spanish hotels on the North Coast, was yesterday whisked off the construction site by narcotics agents who transported him to Kingston.

Last night, Senior Superintendent Carlton Wilson of the Police Narcotics Division said he was “not able to give any details just now” on the drug find and arrest.

A source said the politician was last year selected to represent the PNP in a St James Parish Council division.
