US Embassy remains closed

THE US Embassy in Kingston will remain closed for the second straight day today, after Hurricane Dean pummelled Jamaica.

Last week the embassy issued a statement saying its doors would remain closed for up to two days following the passage of the hurricane, which passed to the south of the island on Sunday, leaving behind a trail of damage.

“There will be no visa interviews, or routine American Citizen Services available on these dates,” the embassy said.

Emergency services for American citizens would, however, continue to be available “without interruption”, the embassy said.

American citizens with bona fide emergencies may call 702-6000.

“As soon as it is possible to do so, the embassy will advise the public about the availability of consular service hours from Wednesday, August 22, onwards,” the embassy said.
