JDF: Individuals stranded at Pedro Cays safe
THE Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on Tuesday said the 20 individuals who defied evacuation orders from the National Meteorological Office and remained on the Pedro Cays during Hurricane Dean were safe.
The JDF said an assessment team it deployed to the cays by air on Monday, confirmed that the individuals – 18 men and two women – were safe.
“They had taken refuge in the JDF’s Coast Guard Station at the Cays, as advised by the JDF Coast Guard Duty Officer,” the JDF said in a release, adding that one of the women had only a minor injury and was treated by the team, which included medical personnel.
The group, according to the JDF, has chosen to remain on the cays.
