EU says it’s standing by Jamaica
THE European Commission (EC) says it is ready to respond actively and rapidly to help Jamaica with its hurricane relief efforts.
“Our humanitarian experts are already in the region working with our partners and the local authorities to assess the needs,” said the European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel.
On Monday, the EC head of delegation to Jamaica, Ambassador Marco Mazzocchi Alemanni, in a phone call to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Anthony Hylton, said “as usual, the European Commission will stand by Jamaica in words and deeds”.
The European Commission Delegation said it has also been in constant dialogue with the relevant authorities to ensure the inclusion of disaster preparedness and prevention measures in development planning and is now participating in the post-Hurricane Dean needs assessment.
